For the first time ever, Latvian Sports museum is displaying paralympic sport and offers its visitors an exhibition “Optimist. Paralympic Champion – Aigars Apinis”.
Exhibition displays medals, sports prizes and other types of awards as well as training and competition equipment all owned by Aigars Apinis. You will be able to get to know athlete’s career, achievements in the Paralympic games and European and World championships for disabled sportsmen. Plus, there are inspiring videos prepared for you to watch.
Aigars Apinis (born 1973) is the most acknowledged Latvian paralympic athlete. He is also the pioneer of disability sport in Latvia. Besides his sports career, working as vice president of Latvian Paralympic Committee and president of Latvian Sports Federation for Persons with Disabilities. Has taken part in 4 Paralympic games (Sydney, 2000; Athens, 2004; Beijing, 2008; London, 2012) by participating in discus throwing and shot putting disciplines and so far has won 3 golden, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals, medalist of other European and World championships as well.
Aigars explains his success with own will power, persistent character, optimism and desire to show that life which has to be spent in a new quality – sitting in a wheelchair – can be as fulfilling, interesting and beautiful as others.
Exhibition will be displayed until June 30, 2016.
